Blowing dust with visibility less than a mile was generated by 45 to 50 mph outflows from the storms&#8230;much higher than DCAPE values from soundings forecasts yesterday. Storms did not move into either Phoenix or Tucson. The satellite picture showed a lot of cirrus with the storms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"536\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 800 \/ 536;\" width=\"800\" autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/discussions.weather.arizona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Recording-2025-07-14-090820.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">GOES19 visible satellite image from July 13th 12:30pm to 8:30pm, College of DuPage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Analysis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The tropical upper tropospheric trough (TUTT) over the northwest Gulf of Mexico has a better-defined circulation today. The TUTT in the Atlantic has sheared apart from its original position extending southwest into the central Carribean Sea. The hodographs show storm motion is to the southwest. Convection initiates on the mountains and begins to move off them to the west-southwest in the early afternoon around 3pm. The 15Z forecast (right side below), has thunderstorms start slightly further north of Tucson then move into the metro area by 4pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"574\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1740 \/ 574;\" width=\"1740\" autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/discussions.weather.arizona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Recording-2025-07-14-094838.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">HRRR-UA WRF 12Z (left), 15Z (right), simulated radar reflectivity forecast from 1:30pm to 1:30am tonight.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tomorrow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Thunderstorm outflow from tonight&#8217;s storms will bring higher dewpoints and CAPE from the Gulf of California as shown in the forecast graphics below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"568\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1740 \/ 568;\" width=\"1740\" autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/discussions.weather.arizona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Recording-2025-07-14-095621.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">HRRR-UA WRF 12Z 2-meter dewpoint temperature (left), total precipitable water (right) forecast for 6:30am tomorrow to midnight tomorrow evening.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Storms will be a little later in the day compared to today; forming in the early afternoon, but only moving into Tucson around 6pm and up to Casa Grande by 8pm. It\u2019s possible that Phoenix will get the storms, but neither the HRRR or GFS UA WRF forecasts bring precipitation into the valley of the dust.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"564\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1738 \/ 564;\" width=\"1738\" autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/discussions.weather.arizona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Recording-2025-07-14-100018.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">HRRR-UA WRF 12Z simulated radar reflectivity (left), total accumulated precipitation (right) forecast for tomorrow 1:30pm to 2am in the evening.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Outlook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By Wednesday, flow shifts to southeasterly and with a cooled lower layer from storms and outflow, so not much thunderstorm activity happening. There are hints that scattered night storms will develop from Tucson to Phoenix.
