The storms caused hail and wind gusts to 70 mph. Arizona was dry with the only significant clouds were cirrus moving into southwest Arizona ahead of the trough off the west coast.\u00a0 Smoke from the Grand Canyon north rim fires was spreading northeast into southern Utah.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"542\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 816 \/ 542;\" width=\"816\" autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/discussions.weather.arizona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Recording-2025-07-25-093852.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">GOES19 infrared satellite images from July 24th 10am to 2:40am last night, College of DuPage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Analysis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The TUTT south of New Mexico lifted to the northeast and is no longer an influential factor. Another TUTT is in the central Gulf of Mexico moving west. The maritime polar trough on the west coast is dominating the circulation across Arizona and bringing in very dry air with dewpoint temperatures as low as \u201341\u00b0C at Phoenix this morning and \u201348\u00b0C at Las Vegas.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"732\" height=\"748\" src=\"https:\/\/discussions.weather.arizona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Screenshot-2025-07-25-094927.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1242\" style=\"width:628px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/discussions.weather.arizona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Screenshot-2025-07-25-094927.png 732w, https:\/\/discussions.weather.arizona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Screenshot-2025-07-25-094927-294x300.png 294w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 732px) 100vw, 732px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>At 700mb, dry air is over the region because of the west coast trough\u2019s circulation. Note the northeast winds along the Texas coast reflecting around the disturbance in the northwest Gulf of Mexico. This is a rare sight for this time of year. The radar reflectivity in northwest Arizona is from mid-level clouds producing virga.
